Le balto, rue Mazarine. I took that photograph in 1988 when still a painter and not yet a photographer, my modest tribute to Robert Doisneau. It fell out of a box this morning, I had almost forgotten it. The angels were with me that day.
"Fort et touchant" are apt; extremely deftly composed in view of the emergency (which is what it must have felt like), capturing the whole child by very good fortune but the framing of the head by pure miracle, with none of the concentration of play being lost. I do not know much about angels, but we all know spontaneous gentleness when we see it; and that is not a matter of chance in this place. Fabulously enviable trait.
hooray for those angels! doisneau said that you must be very patient to wait for the picture but i'm finding that you have to be quick to catch that picture!
beautiful! merveilleuse!
